Strawberries, Wine...and ENGAGED!

February 12, 2010. Our first official weekend away together, and alone! Every other time it's been to visit family. He got "hidden gem" hotel room, right on the lake. We were technically out of town for {{him}} to take a test for a job position that Saturday, but we decided to make the most of it since we dont' get away that often, and it was Valentine's day weekend. I planned all these fun things, like a packed picnic lunch we could have in the hotel room (since it was raining), strawberries and carmel for dessert paired with some strawberry wine, I curled my hair and got dolled up, and of course I brought something special to wear that he was sure to love! He decided we should go out to dinner instead and try the little Oyster bar that was conveniently tucked in right next to the hotel. Just before dinner though, we realized our room door was not closing properly so it wouldnt' lock. We hate complaining, but we couldn't leave our stuff unguarded in a place we don't know. We spoke with customer service, and within seconds she was upgrading us to a suite at no extra charge! We were floored, but excited. After moving our stuff to the second floor suite, and admiring our new, bigger room, we decided to skip our picnic dinner, and headed over the the Oyster bar! The service turned out wonderful, and the food was even better. If I hadn't been giddy before, I definitely was now. After we returned to the hotel room we relaxed, laughed, and enjoyed time together. After an hour or so we decided it was time for strawberries and wine. I set everything up on the table in our upgraded suite so we could enjoy our strawberries while studying for his big test. Right after he poured the wine, he said without hesitation "you know what goes good with strawberries and wine...?" I looked at him confused, thinking he had stashed some chocolate somewhere (since he loves his sweets), shaking my head slightly, he came closer, pulled out a little blue box saying "a ring." He then got on one knee. I was breathless. My heart stopped. My mind raced. "this isn't real, you didn't get a ring" i whispered. He smiled, still on one knee, opening the box "Misty Nicole Jones will you marry me?" I was lost in this surreal dream! After seconds of staring, shaking, and trying to find some reason in my disbelief, I said yes, a huge grin on my face, tears threatening to escape my eyes. It was so perfect....beyond perfect. So natural, so unplanned, so unexpected. And it WAS NOT Valentine's day! Too cheesy, too cliche! It was perfectly us. I will forever remember...'strawberries and wine'...
